Frustrated with the mainstream media’s coverage of war, climate change and the economy, or already making your own media?
Interested in acquiring new skills or finding out more about exciting radical media projects from around the world?
Want to join the resistance to the corporate takeover of the internet, or discuss how we can harness the digital revolution to help bring about radical social change?
THIS CONFERENCE IS FOR YOU!
This gathering will have three main purposes:
- to showcase inspiring examples of radical media practice;
- to further develop radical critiques of the mainstream media;
- to enable activists, journalists and students to engage in training and skillsharing.
The Rebellious Media Conference (RMC) is also:
- an opportunity for dialogue between radical media and mainstream media;
- for radical media groups to come together to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing us, particularly in relation to the digital revolution.
The intention is to capture as much as possible of the RMC and to make it available on the web, and for there to be ongoing projects coming out of the RMC.

As most people still watch tv on their tv screens ie not on the internet, we need to think of creating a radical tv station that could be available via cable or satellite, and in keeping with a radical agenda, to have a free subscription to the chaannel or those on low incomes, but preferable would be to have such a channel on free view. many people cant afford to pay subs and so dont get to see other stations except Russia Today and Aljazeera. Adverts to raise cash, could be those that are socially responsible.
with skill sharing etc, can we have how to make your own podcast? how to set up an internet radio stn and how to set up an internet tv stn?
open source software for low budget media productions workshop. ie open source equivalents for industry standard video editing with menues, special effects
Hello;
I’m a broadcast journalism student working for a community station in a tiny village in Ireland. I’m dying to attend the Radical Media Conference and asked the station to contribute towards getting me across the Irish sea from here to there (‘~’ + € + !) Where upon I was asked “why?” For the first time in my life I’m at a loss for words. Have they never have heard of Noam Chomsky? Any suggestions for a ‘justification proposal’? Come on lads, help me out, I need a great one liner – I’m trying to raise the bar in this country!
I am a major fan of Noam Chomsky and John Pilger’s work. I would love to volunteer for to organize this conference. Please let me know how I can help.
I am very excited about this conference and hope to hear from you guys soon.
Best,
Faiza Farooq
Chomsky & Pilger, great, but why no Susan George
(still telling it like it is since 1975) or
Robin Ramsay (Lobster & much more)? Private eye
worth having too, despite yahboospart moments.
I would be so glad to attend, but I live out of UK and I would need a visa to go there. Are you considering the possibility to broadcast the event via livestreaming? It would be very interesting. I am a freelance social communicator and journalist. Please, spread this reflections to the world.
Hi there
I find it curious that
http://www.medialens.org/
which claims,
“Media Lens is a UK-based media-watch project analysing mainstream media bias”, and boast that it has some success,
does not appear to be participants in your conference.
Why’s that? Haven’t they been offered a platform. Or have they simply not shown any interest?
Hope to be there myself.
look very interesting, so good luck
